Viader 2015 Estate Limited Edition Black Label – This Napa Valley winery is known for low-yielding vines that produce very concentrated grapes, resulting in wines of exceptional complexity that depart from the old-world tradition of Bordeaux-style red blends. Delia Viader, one of the first female winemakers in the Napa Valley, started the winery in 1986. Her winemaker son Alan created this Viader 2015 Black Label Estate Limited Edition ($125), a bold and richly textured blend of Howell-mountain-estate-grown Cabernet Sauvignon, Syrah, Cabernet Franc, and Malbec, with soft, subtle tannins. “Smoky aromas of tar, cigar box, and pipe tobacco complement the fruit notes,” Alan says, “along with a hint of fresh herbs and spices. Lots of baking spices and white pepper coat the finish.
