It begins with alluring aromas of ripe blackberries, dark cherries and creme de cassis woven together with violets, graphite, loamy minerals, herbs and hints of spices all developing in the glass. On the palate this delivers wonderful full-bodied richness, with remarkable overall balance, structure and concentration. Plush and generous. this gorgeous red impresses with layered of beautifully ripe dark fruits that envelop the palate and linger effortlessly on the finish. This is an absolutely sensational effort from the winemaking team of Delia and Alan Viader, which should cruise in the cellar for nearly two decades.

96 Points – The 2016 Estate ‘Black Label’ Red is an absolutely sensational release from Viader. It is composed from top lots of Viader’s Howell Mountain estate Cabernet Sauvignon, Syrah and Cabernet Franc. The result is a powerhouse of a wine that instantly offers profound aromas of crème de cassis, blueberries, pencil lead, herbs, spices, tobacco, chocolate and dried loam, which all come together and burst from the glass. On the palate this is full-bodied and rich, with big voluptuous tannins that are beautifully integrated. It continues to impress with its plush, multi-layered texture, and dense core of ripe dark fruits and sweet spices that continue to expand through the wine. Displaying incredible depth and concentration, this majestic red comes to an end with a huge finish that lingers on and on. The ‘Black Label’ is a flat-out delicious red that is simply fantastic today, but also possesses the building blocks to flourish for years in the cellar for decades.
