2006 DARE by Viader

The 2006 DARE by Viader Cabernet Franc expresses the unique qualities of the 2006 vintage, which was slighter cooler than 2005 during the first half of the year, thus delaying budbreak and bloom. The long warm summer allowed the fruit to catch up and reach optimal maturity. Showing structure yet elegance, this wine shows aromas of graphite, cherry and chocolate. It coats the palate with flavors of dark fruits, and medium tannins giving way to a long finish which will allow one to experience the 2006 vintage for many years to come.

2006 VIADER “V”

With incredibly intriguing qualities, the fruit and structure of the 2006 “V” exudes a tantalizing touch of mystery. Rose petals and harmonizing aromas of dry sandalwood and burnt caramel bring back memories of caramel brittle. Vibrant black cherries, black currant and pomegranate coat the palate with piquant spice, full body and vanillin on the finish.

2006 VIADER “Liquid Cashmere”

The 2006 VIADER Proprietary Cabernet blend is inviting and delicate to the palate with deep purple color and rich bouquet of lavender, Indian spices, bittersweet chocolate and dense dark red fruits. Enveloped in a firm tannin structure the wine shows notes of black pepper, cedar wood and cardamom tones that gracefully intertwine with fully ripened sweet fruit. It finishes with a spark of lingering bittersweet chocolate. Notes of ripe figs, plum and cigar wrap are the main expressions of this wine with some aeration in the glass, after ten or fifteen minutes, it offers floral notes, lavender and again rich spices. This wine has a commanding presence upon opening and requires some patience – 5 to 7 years at least or over an hour decanting – to unveil its complexity and concentration.

2006 VIADER Proprietary Red – “Rich, Smooth Flavors; Sexy Oak Spices”

(a 66/34 blend of cabernet sauvignon and cabernet franc) Good deep red-ruby. Subdued but ripe nose offers cassis, black plum, bitter chocolate, rose petal and sexy oak spices. Bigger, broader and lusher than most past vintages of this bottling, with rich, smooth flavors of dark plum and bitter chocolate. For all its weight (this is clearly a larger-scaled wine than the 2005), it manages to retain a light touch. Finishes with big, broad, rich tannins that reach the teeth. Still a bit youthfully musclebound but built for a slow and positive evolution in bottle. This was the first vintage to be vinified by Alan Viader, who does a longer maceration than previously and makes greater use of delestage to aerate the must and extract color and flavor. The flagship wine was macerated for 45 to 50 days in both ’06 and ’07.
